In October 2019, I landed in Hannover, Germany. I brought two suitcases (both overloaded but luckily not charged extra!). I knew on that day already, I am not going back…. BTW I came with A1.1 German. (Busuu said I was B1 though!)
Some background:
I studied bachelor in my home country, and in the last year I started applying for master in Germany. I actually got the offer somehow right when I graduate. I think it was July 2019, so I started gathering docs and applying for visa and stuffs.

Why I applied?
Good question. I went to UK for a short study tour and then travelled a bit in Europe. At that time my ex boyfriend told me about the free education system in many western countries, and especially German have a lot English-taught master programmes. So I decided to give it a try!
Anyway, I came for a master program in regional planning, with no pre-knowledge but still got admitted 😉 How lucky am I!
Back then, I couldnt imagine where will I be after 6 years (NOW!). I thought if I were lucky maybe I could somehow find a urban planning job?! But I didnt do any research about the career and the prerequisites. The path was hard and many things happened.
Corona –> internship –> new interested discovered –> lets start all over!
Did I imagine I will pass C1 German? Probably.
Did I imagine I will switch career? Maybe.
Did I imagine I will study my second bachelor? Not really.
Did I imagine I will study Math and Data Science? Never haha
Anyway thats where I am now. I am still exploring and sometimes still losing my way. But I am grateful that I have already gone through all these. How will be my future? I dont know yet. But I know I already have much more experience than many people who never left their home country, jumping out of the comfort zone, learn a new language, and start a new career.
Thank you for reading! I still got a lot of “foreigner experience” and life hacks to share with YOU!
